To The Editor:
I am a proud parent of two successful graduates of Harwood Union High School and Middle School. In addition to the great education that my daughters received, thanks to the efforts of wonderful teachers and para-educators and a committed community that supports its schools, I am proud of Harwood's commitment to its students of all abilities and backgrounds. Our students show their best qualities when they interact with their so-called disabled peers, and they are better prepared for life in the 21st century as a result.
I find it very ironic that a great school system with such a commitment to its students would deny legally mandated accommodations to a loyal employee and successful para-educator with a learning disability. I thought it was morally and fiscally irresponsible for our superintendent and school board to appeal the reasoned findings of the arbitrator in the case. If they choose to continue to fight this unjust cause now that the courts have ruled against them, I, for one, will support the immediate removal of both the school board and our superintendent.
Reinstate Denise Fuoco; it's the right thing to do.
