‘Appalled at treatment’

To The Editor:

As a mother of three Harwood graduates and an employee in the Special Education Department, I am appalled at how our school system has treated Denise Fuoco. Denise has worked with students with disabilities for 23 years and she is extremely talented in that field. If the administration and the school board really knew how talented she was, I would have hoped that they would have accommodated her when she asked to be accommodated in terms of becoming highly qualified in a job she already excelled in.

Denise is dyslexic – not illiterate! God forbid if we had treated Albert Einstein, who was also dyslexic, the same way Denise has been treated. We stand to lose much when we ignore people with learning disabilities.
