"You've got to be kidding!"

To The Editor:

I direct this letter to Mr. Hird. I was astonished when reading your letter. You have got to be kidding me! I have a couple of questions for you, Mr. Hird. First, why in the world would you think that it is Harwood's responsibility to protect your child's property? Second, why on God's green earth would it be okay for your child or anyone else's child to bring $160 worth of cash to school? Third, why is your child bringing any money, especially that much, to school anyway? And finally, why does your child need an iPod nano ($269) at school?

To be blunt, Mr. Hird, it is your responsibility to teach your child common sense by not bringing any of the above to school if they don't want to take the chance of it being stolen. The only money a child should have to bring to school is a check for their lunches! Just in case you don't know, Mr. Hird, the school furnishes each student with a locker to put personal items in. I find it very interesting and just really can't believe a kid would bring $160 worth of cash to school. Why?

I believe, Mr. Hird, you should ask your child these questions. I also believe that Harwood should not allow CD players, iPod's, cell phones, etc. The kids are there to learn. They can play with their toys at home.
