To The Editor:
A man on a motorcycle was killed on Friday night when he stuck a moose in the Granville Gulf. I think it is really important for people to know this and for people to slow down (and go the speed limit!) through the Gulf, especially the section where the moose signs are. You know, there is a reason that we take the time and make those extra signs in addition to the ones the state has up.
It is because there are moose in the road in that section of road and often. Early a.m., dusk and after dark through the night are when they are usually there.
Unfortunately, the straight away where they always are is a dangerous passing zone that people go 70 miles an hour -- sometimes passing me when I have slowed down because there is a moose in front of me. It is ridiculous.
I am going to write a letter to the state urging them to make that section a no passing zone.
Anyway, anything we can do to urge people to slow down in the Gulf and to pay attention to those moose signs -- it could save their life (and the life of the moose, of course).
You can see moose. If you know they are there and you slow down, you will see them.
