"Apology to the community"

10/18/2007

To The Editor:

As the founder of Rootswork so many years ago, I must apologize to the community that Rootswork (501-c3 nonprofit) has been in a holding pattern trying to deal fairly with the Faillaces for so very long.

The Faillaces were the first farming business that the beginning Rootswork members decided to incubate for Valley agriculture growth. Then the feds rode in and took the sheep. Since those days Rootswork has been stalemated by the Faillaces' issues.

I'm disappointed, knowing so many well-meaning Valley folks who have tried to do great things with Rootswork. The current Rootswork board has made hard decisions and you've got to be proud of that. Rootswork has survived after being ahead of its time. Think back to its beginning, the greater community was just waking up to food issues, now its hitting home hard.

Now in The Valley, the Kingsbury farm and more are being looked at. Why create a new non-profit, Rootswork has survived a test of time and God knows the lessons that have been learned. Take that experience and run with it.
