Edna May Buff, 85, of Lincoln House, Barre, died Sunday night, July 24, 2011, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. Her family had been at her bedside.
Born December 9, 1925, in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies, she was the daughter of Cecil and May (Cheong) Chuck.
She was first married to David Kong in Kingston, Jamaica, where they made their home and where he died. Later, she married Ernest Buff in Barnard. Following their marriage, they lived in Barnard and Deltona, FL. After his death, she resided in Toronto, Canada, Waitsfield, and for the past four years at Lincoln House in Barre.
While living in Kingston, Jamaica, she operated a grocery store and a tavern. After moving to Vermont, Edna taught an adult Chinese cooking class at both Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center and at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH.
Her interests were traveling, cooking, gardening and singing. Spending time with her children and grandchildren brought her great joy.
She is survived by her daughter Eliza “Cherry” Kong and her husband Dan Furlong of Moretown; two sons, Henry Kong and his wife Mary of Orlando, FL, and Edward Kong and his wife Jeannette of Toronto, Canada; five stepsons, David Kong, Phillip Kong, Edwin Kong, Ernest Buff and Paul Buff; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four brothers and one sister; and nieces and nephews.
Her Service of Remembrance and Life’s Celebration will be held at a time to be announced at the Lincoln House on Hill Street in Barre. There are no calling hours. Private interment will take place at a later date.
