Geraldine R. Cota

Geraldine R. Cota, 87, a longtime resident of Warren, passed away at Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center on Saturday, September 14, 2013. Born in Fayston on January 19, 1926, she was the daughter of the late James and Bernice (Macomber) Cameron. On April 19, 1946, Geraldine married Kenneth R. Cota in Waterbury. Ken predeceased Geraldine on May 9, 1993.

Geraldine and her family moved to Johnson where she attended schools and was a 1945 graduate of Johnson High School. Following her marriage to Ken, they made their home in Warren.

In her early years, Geraldine worked for several years as a cook at the Sugarbush ski area and then went on to work for the Warren Elementary School hot lunch program. Geraldine later assisted many elderly residents in the Mad River Valley so they could remain in their homes and worked as the janitor at the Warren Post Office. Geraldine is lovingly remembered for the exceptional care and dedication she gave her husband Ken throughout his long illness and final days.

Her memberships included Warren United Church and Altar Guild and Warren Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, and she served on the Warren Cemetery Commission and was sexton for Warren Cemeteries. In her leisure time, she enjoyed embroidery and a variety of other craftwork.

Geraldine is survived by three sisters, Eleanor Currier of Randolph, Jean Nadeau of Essex Junction and Edith Hebard of Barton; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her twin sister, Evelyn Huard.

Graveside services will be held from Warren Village Cemetery on Friday, September 20, 2013, at 1 p.m. For those who wish, memorial gifts in lieu of flowers would be appreciated to the Warren Village Fire Department, c/o Reta Goss, P.O. Box 337, Warren, VT 05674. Assisting the family is the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury. To send online condolences visit www.perkinsparker.com and Facebook.
