The November rifle dear hunting season started Saturday, November 11, with area hunters with big smiles on their faces as they reported their triumphs at Lackey's Sunoco Station in Waterbury. The overall numbers, while indicated as very high, were not available as <MI>The Valley Reporter<D> was going to press.
The largest reported deer taken on Monday, November 13, was a 190-pound six-pointer taken by Spencer Braman of Montpelier. Another 190-pounder with five points was downed by John C. Carhea of Waterbury. Merrill W. Austin of Moretown reported a four-point 180-pounder he downed on Tuesday, November 14. Another 180-pounder, this one with seven points, was taken by William Kinsell of Waterbury. He got his deer on Sunday, November 13.
The current deer season runs through Sunday, November 26. The muzzleloader rifle season gets underway on December 2.
