Children in the Open Hearth Community Karate Program, taught by Green Mountain Dojo, were wide-eyed and excited to witness Cole Tremblay and Steven Howell's short demonstration of their fighting skills during a recent visit to their class in Waitsfield. After showing the class the common techniques used versus illegal ones, the fighters engaged in a vigorous round of fighting. Afterwards, the students had an opportunity to ask the fighters questions about their training and about the upcoming competition.
The pair will be competing in an open weight, full contact fighting competition. Kyokushin Karate is known for its strong fighting skills. In this type of competition, no pads or protective gear may be worn. Because there are no weight divisions, a smaller fighter may draw a much larger opponent in the ring. It is therefore essential that fighters not only possess the necessary fighting skills to succeed, but they must also be in top condition physically as well as mentally.
