State Champions

It's playoff time for the Harwood Union Highlander spring athletes. With boys' track winning the state championship and the girls' track coming in as runner up (see related article), the girls' golf team of Christine Milne, Samantha Quinn and Miranda Milne outshot their opponents to win by 17 strokes on the greens of Pittsfield. This was the sixth Division II championships and second in a row for the girls' golf team. As <MI>The Valley Reporter<D> goes to press, the boys' golf team is at the state championships at Middlebury.

Playoffs

The fifth-place girls' softball team upset number-one ranked Lyndon to get a swing at the state championship title game to be held on Friday, June 11, at Veterans Memorial Field in Poultney at 7:30 p.m. against Lamoille. The Harwood boys' lacrosse team will get their first opportunity at a state championship against Rice after pounding U-32 on Tuesday at home 13-8. The game will be held at Burlington High School at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Came up short

The boys' and girls' tennis team came up short in quarterfinal playoffs on Friday. The boys lost to Brattleboro to finish the season 8 and 4 and the girls lost to Springfield at the Bridges with some well-fought matches and finished their season with a 5 and 7 record. The boys' baseball team finished their season with a 13 and 4 record after losing a tough one to South Burlington in the playoffs.
