While Malcolm Appleton's injuries were no laughing matter, a little humor certainly doesn't hurt. What does hurt, to my way of thinking, is that some of us have so little faith in our neighbors that we would instantly assume that one of our community was out to put down a fine athlete and person. I don't know the gentleman who wrote the letter, but I am certainly willing to assume that he had no evil thoughts, but was merely trying to poke fun at another assault on the English language.
