To The Editor:

For any of us who have spent much time in the current town office, last Tuesday’s vote came as a surprise and disappointment.  Those who voted against the proposal had their own reasons and we must respect that fact.

Yet, I wonder if they realize that a Community Development Block Grant is available to share with towns which plan to move offices out of flood-prone areas.  Without an approved plan, we are passing on the opportunity to apply for $750,000 toward a new town office.

After storm “Irene” we certainly qualify!

Our share of the grant would cover nearly one half the cost of the proposed option which was turned down, or one third the cost of the Methodist church alternative.

This grant has a “shelf life” and other towns are applying.  Once the money is apportioned, there is no more.

As the old saying goes, “Time is of the essence!”
