To The Editor:
On Tuesday, February 18, at about 4:30 p.m., I was driving up the East Warren Road when about a half mile north of the Round Barn Farm I made the poor decision of attempting to pass a town of Waitsfield plow. It turned out to be thoughtless, reckless and, most importantly, dangerous. My actions caused a woman in the oncoming lane to drive off the road into a snowbank, putting her directly in harm's way.
Immediately after the occurrence, I pulled over to the wrong side of the road to see if the driver was alright. The driver of a pickup who had been behind me yelled to get my attention, reminding me that I better move my car ASAP. I drove a bit further up the road, anxious to turn around and check on the scene I had just left behind.
Miraculously, the driver of that pickup happened to be a firefighter as well (I noticed the tag beneath his license plate). By the time I had turned around he was already helping the woman tow her car from the snowbank. He waved me on with a smile and assured me that he had things under control. My biggest regret is that these people remain nameless.
It is my sincere hope that you both see this letter and accept both my apology as well as my gratitude for all that you do to keep this Valley such a special place. The woman whom I placed in harm's way never spoke truer words that went something like this, "Our world is a slow one; we take our time here in The Valley." A good motto and reminder for me as to why I love this place so much.
