On Tuesday March 13, the 18-member Harwood Jazz Ensemble traveled to the Flynn Theater to participate in the Vermont Association of Jazz Educators High School Jazz Festival, an adjudicated competition where the two best bands win the honor of playing a concert at the Flynn that evening.

For the eighth time in nine years, Harwood took top honors. The quality of playing in the competition and again in the evening concert showed clearly that Harwood Jazz continues to be Vermont's best high school jazz program. Drummers Nick Dettor and Cameron Hancock and bassist Justin Dunn also were picked through a rigorous audition process for the 2011-12 All State Jazz Band, which will perform May 11 as part of the All State Music Festival in Burlington, May 9 to 12.
