The Harwood Union alpine ski teams competed Saturday, January 25, at Lincoln Peak in the CVU winter carnival. The event was a two-run slalom with the scoring taking the best eight skiers on either team, boys or girls, to obtain a score. In high school racing the low score wins. Ironically, for the Harwood team, four girls and four boys were used to obtain the team score and it was the best team performance by a wide margin.

Megan O'Shea led her team with an overall win in a strong field of skiers. Mercedes Woolley, 5th, Maddie Lowe, 7th, and Callie Anderson, 8th, gave the team a super result and their performance was the best overall girls' team in the meet.

Hobey Weston skied an equally fine race to finish in the runner-up position. Parker Herilhy, 3rd, John Egan, 5th, and Matt Crowell, 12th, all skied well and were also the best boys' team in the meet.

Harwood had a large field in the race with many other fine results. For the boys: Alec McGlynn, 25th, Malcolm Purinton, 34th, and Thibault Pelhate, an exchange student in his first race ever, placed 60th. Harwood girls: Piper Beilke, 25th, Anna Belongia, 26th, Maddie McGeorge, 30th, Ashley McNeish, 32nd, Isabella Harris, 35th, Lauren McMann, 39th, Ragan McMann, 40th, Fiona Smith, 43rd, and Nina Brundage, 44th.

The Harwood team hosts a slalom at Mad River Glen on Friday, January 31, with a start time at noon.
