On Thursday, December 31, 2009, the Waitsfield Fire Department responded to a three-alarm-fire at a garage owned by David and Sherry Armstrong on Route 100 behind AmeriGas. The Warren and Moretown Fire Departments also assisted with the call, which took approximately 35 men eight hours to fully extinguish, according to Waitsfield Fire Department chief Delbert Palmer. The tone went out at 2:22 a.m.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation; Palmer said the garage fire was put out before it reached nearby propane tanks. Nobody was injured.

The Vermont State Police issued a statement about the fire noting that "the Waitsfield-Fayston Fire Department requested assistance from the Moretown and Warren Fire Departments. The fire departments quickly and aggressively attacked the fire saving a nearby propane tank. The Waitsfield-Fayston Fire Department requested an origin and cause investigation. An investigation showed the cause of this fire to be undetermined, not suspicious. There were no reported injuries as a result of this fire."
