Michael Edward Baz, cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, was born on May 12, 1940 in Bayshore, New York. He was the son of Carlos nd Frances Baz. Michael’s life was woven of hard work, commitment to family and country, close friendships, photography, and fishing.
Michael enlisted in the US Army at the age of 18. He honorably served his nation for two years, spending his service time stationed in Korea. His early sense of responsibility and discipline guided his future endeavors. Following his military experience, he pursued a degree in education from Lyndon State College in Vermont. He took a job at Waitsfield Elementary School, where he motivated young minds as a teacher. His skills and dedication soon led to the role of principal, inspiring students and colleagues with wisdom, patience, and a sense of humor. In the mid-70’s, he discovered his talent for photography, shooting his first tennis tournament in 1976, and giving birth to his career in professional tennis. He dedicated decades to that career, traversing the globe, photographing both men and women at major events 30+ weeks a year. On a few special occasions, he even pivoted to the role of wedding photographer for his professional player friends. Michael’s player images on display throughout the International Tennis Hall of Fame document his prolific dedication to tennis and the many friendships he shared on the tour.
Fishing was always a passion in his life, and to feed the need, a 1992 move from Vermont to Florida was in the cards. With son Carlos and a cadre of Florida buddies, he was on the water whenever possible, living the dream.
Michael was supported by the steadfast love of his wife Terri, with whom he shared a remarkable 50-year journey of love and laughter. He was a devoted father to sons Carlos and Ali, who, alongside their wives Nicki and Joanna, brought immense pride and joy into his life. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Jack, Rio, Ethan, and Max. Michael’s life was also enriched by his brother Doug and his wife Jill, sharing a bond of sibling affection and camaraderie. His family circle was completed by his beloved little dog, Maximus.
Known for his quick wit, Michael was always ready with a smile, touching the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026 in the kind care of Trustbridge Hospice of Palm Beach County. This amazing man’s smile will be kept alive in treasured memories forever.
