Good things happen in threes, as the saying goes and we’ve got three good things to share with your community this week that show how true that is.

First, we have news of two important conservation/preservation projects that are pending. One is a significant and visible parcel of land on the corner of the East Warren Road and Roxbury Gap Road, directly across from a town-owned property that now houses Rootswork, WMRW, and the East Warren Community Market.

This project is being conserved through landowner generosity, local fundraising and is being undertaken by Yestermorrow. That town-owned property used to be one of the town’s original school houses, which leads us to the next conservation/preservation project.

A few miles to the north and west is another historic school house, Fayston’s Number Nine School House on Mill Brook Road. This property is being purchased by a newly-formed nonprofit, Friends of the Number Nine School House, Inc, at an extremely favorable price from its current owners who want to see the property conserved and used. This is a significant and visible property that has long housed a successful architectural practice and has been owned by the same family since the 1960s. They are now ready pass the property on and are selling it to this new nonprofit that will maintain it and keep it vibrant.

Last but not least, The Valley’s strong cross-community connection has caught the attention of a Vermont-nonprofit company, Bee. Bee helps people (and their communities) connect through volunteerism which is something we do well here and that has caught the eye of the folks at Bee.

This effort is spearheaded by local individuals, along with the Mad River Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Mad River Valley Rotary who, with Bee, invite the community to celebrate a We Are MRV weekend next month that features a festival, a block party and volunteer fair. The weekend also offers the screening of a new documentary, “Join or Die.”

Let’s celebrate these three great things coming our way. Let’s take heart that people are actively participating, working, and trying to achieve good things for our communities. Given the news on the outside, on the national and international levels, let’s celebrate the good in front of us.
