The weather has been great and skiing is fantastic for this early in the season. We are lucky indeed!

We’re also fortunate to live in a community where people do their best to help each other and look out for each other. We are well served by all our volunteer community organizations whether it’s the super critical EMS provided by Mad River Valley Ambulance Service, or our three local volunteer fire departments who spring into action every time the tones go out.

We have an incredibly active Rotary Club, an amazing Mad River Valley Interfaith Council. The Mad River Valley Community Fund helps everyone who needs it, no questions asked.

Meals On Wheels volunteers, Free Wheelin’ drivers and volunteers, those who staff the community pantry – we are so lucky that you care.

Think about all the ways so many people volunteer their time and work to make our community stronger. We have lively and active libraries, we have engaged and active planning commissioners, development review board members, select board members, conservation commission members and don’t ever forget the school board! Talk about a difficult (and not getting any easier) job!

Local folks volunteer to help local seniors and they volunteer to help foster and place rescue dogs with loving families. They mentor kids, they volunteer with hospice. They raise funds and distribute pet food.

Volunteers serve on our chamber board and in our visitor center. They work as ambassadors at Sugarbush. They serve on recreation boards, nonprofit boards and Friends of the Mad River and the Mad River Path. They coach sports with local kids from the youngest to the oldest.

They are legion. The list is endless. It could fill the entire Valley Reporter! We are fortunate and let’s never take this for granted.

It is also the giving season and those who can share with any of our local nonprofits that do such great work here are encouraged to do so. We’re all going into a period of uncertainty in terms of how, when and where funding may come in 2026 and beyond. Help if you can and thanks to all who do so much.
