Now that summer has finally arrived, locals and visitors alike have been heading to local swimholes to cool off. A drive from one end of The Valley to the other this week saw swimhole parking lots packed, with cars lining Route 100 at Warren Falls, Riverside Park in Warren, the Lareau Swim Hole, Blueberry Lake and beyond.

As heavily used and loved as these swimholes are, it is important to remember that they did not fall into the public domain by accident. It took a concerted amount of effort from local planners, individuals, nonprofits, and the local voters who authorized spending for, and from, conservation funds.
