To The Editor:

We want to thank the over 200 community members who joined us for our two events, on October 1 and 7, to discuss potential changes to our school district. As our HUUSD Board prepares to adopt a preK-12 plan by November 13, here’s what you can expect from us in the weeks ahead:

  1. A summary of our forum discussions and responses from our community survey.
  2. Board member reflections on community input and how they are each using this input in making decisions.
  3. A board discussion with our legal counsel about the process for defining the scope and language of a bond proposal as well as the legal considerations involved with any potential school closure.
  4. Consideration of a motion to schedule additional community forums.
  5. Board discussion of any additional data needed to make this decision.
  6. Reduction in the number of scenarios being considered (through a vote of the board).

At our next board meetings on October 16 and 23, we invite members of the public to join us for an extended Q&A period starting at 6 p.m. at Harwood Union, followed by our regular meeting. Please visit huusd.org/prek-12-bond-plan to find relevant documents, data and links that explain and support our current work.
