To The Editor

I was saddened to read the letter published last week from a nonresident homeowner who experienced an expression of hate while on a trip to Mehuron’s. That hate just isn’t who we are.

Our real identity was better shown in the content and general tone of last week’s The Valley Reporter. In it were stories of compassion, togetherness, courage, caring, mutual support and recognition of some of the human spirit’s finest and most enduring qualities demonstrated during hard times.

With full-page statements from the Valley Rotary and Mad River Strong, showing concern and giving encouragement from government, nonprofits and businesses of both long- and short-term standing, all together for shared values and the common cause.

And that common cause is us. Us individually. Us as a community.

And that is who we are.
