To The Editor:

Heartfelt condolences to the Boynton family on the loss of their remarkable dog. We recently lost our beloved dog, so we know what they are going through. Torie was a Cavalier King Charles spaniel, so-named because the Cavaliers became the Tories. She was a member of the only breed allowed on the floor of the House of Lords, because King Charles II gave them a hereditary knighthood. Her bloodlines were far better than mine, but she was always modest about her grand heritage. Torie loved to supervise my driving and perched herself on the back seat of my car in a way that enabled her to see the road ahead.  She was a different dog in Vermont, much more adventurous than back home in Washington. We miss her dearly.
