To The Editor:

Hey runners, let’s all rally and support our beautiful Mad Marathon!

After over a year of COVID cancellations, events in The Valley are coming back and the Mad Marathon will be happening on September 12 -- a perfect time to run a race!

This great event has been named in Runner’s World three years in a row as one of their top-10 races, along with Paris and Stockholm (we’re in good company!). This year will be the 10th anniversary (minus missing last year) and will kick off with a live concert on the Mad River Green in Waitsfield on Friday evening, September 10, featuring The Grift.

All race participants receive a race shirt, a bag, a medal, post-race food and drinks and the thrill -- as Kate Williams so eloquently stated in her letter in The Valley Reporter last week -- of just getting out and running. And the satisfaction of knowing your efforts are supporting a great event that helps patronize all of our local businesses.

Not up for running the entire 26.2-mile course? You can run the Mad Half, 13.1 miles, or split the half and run a relay with another runner, 5.8 or 7.3 miles, or get a team together. Segments for Marathon five-person teams start at just 3.8 miles. You can even have a walking team! There’s a best costume category. How about a veggie team? Be a carrot, a potato, a pumpkin, an ear of corn and an onion! Or a Sugarbush or Mad River Glen team! A Mehuron’s team! For an entry fee of just $48 each, you can be part of the Mad Marathon fun and excitement and be forever etched in history as a participant in the World’s Most Beautiful Marathon!

If you’d like to be part of a team but don’t have four additional running buddies, please contact me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call 802-793-8805. I’ll be matching runners up to form teams.

Not a runner or walker? You can still support our marathon event as a sponsor and/or volunteer. Details are on the website at www.madmarathon.com.

Thanks for being part of our community and helping to keep our local events alive!
