To the editor

It looks like I am the fourth of the boomer generation with remarks, but I am commenting on the complaints of the three previous Warren residents criticizing the parade this year. Maybe we could hear from a millennial or Gen Z instead of only we geezers?

One quote was from a longtime resident complaining about parking liberties that should not have been taken in the cemetery area. Understandable but reparable for the next parade. Another longtime resident complained about having to help direct traffic in front of her house. That’s commendable, thank you and I’m sure that too can be attended to better next year.

The point is, this happens one day of the year when citizens celebrate our independence from tyrants!

The third person complained that the theme of “resistance is revolutionary”  was not appropriate. Perhaps they forgot on July 4, 1776, we were under the thumb of a literal tyrant, taxing working people who could barely put food on their plates and clothing on the backs of their children. Similar to the situation we are growing into today, where we have creeping fascism, a corrupt judicial system all the way to the Supreme Court, where at least two of the justices and probably a third have been taking financial gifts for years to influence their decisions.

That same judicial system has decided that corporations are people and can give literally 10’s of millions of dollars to candidates to influence our once democratic elections. We have a wannabe tyrant who is morally and intellectually unfit for office, is a narcissist/thug who only wants to be in the office to fatten his and his cronies’ bank accounts.

Women are angry over having their uterus policed, and it’s now difficult to get contraceptives in some states of our country. Our national parks and what pristine coastlines are left have been opened up for chainsaws and mineral exploration. School lunches have been cut, Medicaid has been cut, food and nutritional supplementation has been axed and soon, I suspect, our Social Security payments.

Trump ignores separation of powers, is a compulsive liar, misogynist, insults and alienates our allies and wages secret wars with his family benefiting from his policies. The Department of Justice punishes his enemies, rigs elections, and he wants to name everything after himself. Our nation deserves dignity and government benefiting all of us. We must rid ourselves of these crude bandits in November. The top 1% in our country owns almost the equivalent of the bottom 90%! Please hear that.

I am appalled at the apathy of some of my friends, neighbors and fellow citizens and it’s time for the American people to say enough before it all comes crashing down on us.

Michael Levengood,

Warren
