A little history of the Fourth of July celebration and because I'm really not happy with the idea of moving the celebration out of Warren village.
Although not many people in The Valley know me, I feel since I've lived here many years in Warren village, I need to express my thoughts on the subject. I was on the committee that formed the Warren Community Club. The club was formed by asking for a person from every organization in town to become a part of the Warren Community Club.
Our main project was to have a Fourth of July celebration. My husband (Warren Mobus) and I with many others worked hard to get a program organized and workable.
We had many committees: advertising, parade, law and order, dinner, activities on Brooks Field, dance committee.
We had a great parade. Roy Long, owner of Long's Store (now Warren Store) for many years was in charge of the parade -- grand marshal, bands, many floats, antique cars, horses and fire equipment -- were in the parade.
After the parade a ham dinner was served at the Town Hall managed by Hazel Smith and her helpers.
We also had lots of activities on Brooks Field -- bingo, other games, little league games and Emma Fords was in charge of a very successful horse show.
The day ended with a well attended dance at the Town Hall.
It just doesn't seem right to me to take the function out of our village. It has been a part of our village for over 50 years. Of course, it has changed over the years, but to move it to another location will change it even more. In fact, it won't be the Warren Fourth of July.
