What about your town?

To The Editor:

I would like to thank Darlene McCormick of Fayston for her support and response to the piece I wrote in The Valley Reporter’s My View section two weeks ago about the prospects of Rochester divesting its public funds from fossil fuels. I got involved in a campaign to divest the endowment at Smith College from fossil fuels in my senior year.

Now out of school, Darlene’s sentiment that we cultivate our opportunity resonates with me. In turn, we cultivate our future. With a little investigation and curiosity I hope to bring an opportunity to Rochester. Going to a town clerk’s office or select board meeting to understand a town's pubic investments is something we can all do.

I want to know what about Waitsfield, what about Warren, what about Fayston, what about Moretown and beyond The Valley? I challenge you as readers of The Valley Reporter to go and find out and report back your respective town’s public investments in the form of an op ed. If you are inspired, how are your personal investments, retirement and your alma mater invested? The first step is to ask.
