'Change logo'

To The Editor:

Here is a response to that piece by Valerie Porter. As numerous businesses and for sale signs appear in The Valley, it's time for a change. Valerie needs to stop launching haymakers at today's local youth. Calling them derogatory and insulting comments doesn't solve anything. Ever since the time Mad River Glen went private (sort of) they have done little to improve the lifts or snowmaking at the place. Keep your single chair. Replace the other three double chairs from the 1950s.

It's time for Mad River Glen to change their logo. Why? I believe that too many 12-year-olds and others are avoiding MRG because of that logo. In reality, it is too tough to ski, but we don't need to go around bragging about how difficult the trail system is. There are plenty of good novice trails there. It's preventing the local community a chance to make money!

Every time we deny a person a chance to buy a lift ticket, we deny the local business community a chance to make money off that person. I have a few ideas to defuse this situation at MRG. 1: Ditch the intimating logo. 2. End the snowboarding ban and allow today's youth a chance to enjoy MRG. Install solar lights on the practice slope and put in rails, jumps, halfpipes, etc. Have two big competitions in early December and late March like the events they had in Stratton and put up some good prize money. Welcome all snowboarders with open arms. We need their business! Change the logo to read: "Mad River Glen – Where Skiers and Snowboarders are all Welcome."
