To The Editor:

On March 4, Town Meeting Day, Waitsfield voters will have the opportunity to decide whether to adopt a written Australian ballot rather than just a floor vote by a show of hands. This will provide multiple advantages. Many people cannot get to Town Meeting for various reasons. Some must work, others are out of town and some may be caregivers. Some folks may be physically unable to attend the meeting. There may also be those who are not comfortable raising their hand to support or oppose a controversial item. A written ballot provides privacy. It would also allow for absentee ballots. This will only be accomplished if you come to Town Meeting and school meeting on March 4 to support this democratic action. Passage of this proposal will allow greater voter participation.
