Effective March 1, Dr. Fran Cook, nurse practitioners Debbie VanDyke and Susanne Heinzerling, as well as the rest of the nursing and office staff will be employed by CVMC.

Patty Cady, nurse and spokesperson, said patients should not expect much in the way of changes in how the office operates. She said that CVMC will do all the billing for the office and said that a switch from one computer system to a new one has already occurred.

That switch should have resulted in patient information/insurance information and billing information being transferred, but patients are advised to bring their insurance cards along for their first visit as a precaution.

Asked if the rates would change, Cady said they might and referenced letters that had gone out to affected patients. She said for the most part rates would not change because the medical practice rates were already current with other Vermont medical practices.

To fulfill a mandate from the Mad River Valley Health Center, which owns the building, the Mad River Family Health will continue to provide health care for the indigent and those without insurance.

Additionally, Cady said, the shift to CVMC was likely to result in evening and weekend hours.

CVMC Group Practices manages family physician offices in Waterbury, Northfield, Montpelier and Berlin as well as internal medicine, pediatrics, urology, ob-gyn, and psychiatry in the Center Vermont area.

The change will also make it easier for Mad River Family Health to recruit staff, create electronic medical records and expand as needed.
