The Mad River Resource Management Alliance is working with schools in the Washington West Supervisory Union, Highfields Center for Composting, Grow Compost of Vermont, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and the Central Vermont Solid Waste District (CVSWD) in developing a food waste composting program at these schools.

Training and education on the composting program and the collection of the food scraps is being guided by the Highfields Center for Composting and the Central Vermont Solid Waste District’s Business Organics Program with students, faculty, staff and other community members participating.

The food scraps will be picked up and transported by the CVSWD to the Grow Compost of Vermont facility in Moretown where it will be converted into high-grade compost material. Grow Compost has generously waived their tipping fee for the schools and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters has provided a grant that will support the initial collection and transportation of the food scraps. The program will begin at Harwood Union.
