Interim superintendent Dick Moser and members of the local school board have begun the search process for a new superintendent and also initiated the process of finding a replacement for Moretown Elementary School Principal Roberta Barone and Waitsfield Elementary School Principal Richard Schattman.

PUBLIC INPUT

Moser said that a series of meetings seeking public input from community members and parents will be the first step in each search. The meetings will be held this fall. The first meeting takes place on September 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Waitsfield Elementary School library for community members to provide input on what qualities are important for the new school principal who will replace Schattman.

The next meeting takes place on October 6 at the Moretown Elementary School library at 6:30 p.m. for community members to weigh in on what qualities are important for the principal who will replace Barone.

PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES

On October 20 community members are invited to comment on the personal and professional qualities important in a new superintendent. That meeting takes place at the Harwood Union High School library at 7 p.m.

Moser explained that community input is one of three steps school boards will take to find a new superintendent and new principals. In addition to the public meetings, individual search committees at each level will seek input from school staff and board members. Wrenn Compere is heading up the search committee for the Waitsfield Elementary School, John Smeltzer heads the search committee for the Moretown Elementary School and Missy Shea heads the Washington West search committee.

Moser said he hoped that community input sessions and other input would allow each committee to advertise the positions this fall with an eye to interviewing finalists in January and offering jobs to finalists in February.

Those who cannot attend the meetings and wish to offer comments can email input to Moser at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
