Number-two ranked tennis player Mariel Golden with her coach Scott Barker after reaching the Vermont State High School Tennis Championships.

Harwood's Mariel Golden reached the finals of the Vermont State High School Tennis Championships held in Stowe. Golden, seeded number one going into the tournament, was defeated in the finals by Madison Martley of Burlington 7-5, 6-4. Mariel defeated CVU's Kylie deGroot 7-5, 6-2 in the semifinals. Her regular season record was 15 wins with no losses. Golden is currently training at The Bridges with head tennis professional Scott Barker. This ranks her number two in the state of Vermont of all high school tennis players for 2010.

According to Sue DuPrat, athletic director at Harwood, "To my knowlege and the available records, this has never happened in the history of tennis at Harwood. We are thrilled that Mariel had such a successful individual tournament and look forward to her leading the way in the team tournament which begins this week!"
