"Basically this brings us into compliance with the national flood insurance program," said Ketchel, who is the chair of the Warren Planning Commission. "It's an administrative update."

Ketchel also presented on the progress in updating the Town Plan. The schedule was adjusted so the new Town Plan could include the most recent census data.

In updating the Town Plan, the planning commission is taking into consideration potential development of alternative energy. "Our Town Plan has always been written to promote alternative energy sources," said Ketchel.

Ketchel reported that the planning commission has reviewed all chapters of the current plan. Discussions on energy and fluvial erosion will likely take place in the near future. "We're in no rush. We're trying to make sure that we do a comprehensive update that will stand for another five years."

ENERGY COMMITTEE

The select board voted to create an energy committee. The committee will serve as an advisory body for the select board. Open meetings will be held quarterly.

"There's a lot going on. We're seeing it at a lot of select board meetings," said select board member Anson Montgomery, who spearheaded the energy effort. "It will keep us ahead of the ball a little bit."

The energy committee will have five voting members and one alternate, with the recommendation that members of the select board and the planning commission are involved. Matt Sargeant, Dan Raddock, John Norton and Jesse Stowell were appointed members of the energy committee. Another potential nomination is pending. Montgomery will serve as an alternate. Members will be appointed annually.

A festival permit was approved for the Green Mountain Stage Race, scheduled for September 3 through 6. The time trials will take place on Flat Iron Road. The portion of the race on Sunday will follow East Warren Road.

PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE

The select board voted to approve a temporary easement for construction for a pedestrian bridge crossing Clay Brook by the Mad River Path Association, pending approval by the conservation commission.

Autumn Foushee, director of the Mad River Path Association, spoke about the plans to build a steel bridge with a wood top near the confluence of Clay Brook and the Mad River. She hopes construction will be completed this fall.

The select board voted to sign and send a letter to Sugarbush concerning expectations of the construction currently taking place on the Sugarbush Access Road. It is specifically addressing the drainage system and paving where the Sugarbush snowmaking line is being replaced.
