This year, businesses as well as individuals will be asked to donate $25 with 100 percent benefiting the Food Shelf and Interfaith Council. The Valley Reporter will create a page thanking donors who wish to be recognized. That page will appear in the November 18 issue.

Local churches gather food donations from their members. Those donations are collected and brought to the Mad River Valley Food Shelf for inventorying. Volunteers shop for the rest of the items needed for the baskets and then the turkeys are collected and more volunteers assemble the baskets. The baskets are delivered to local families -- also by volunteers.

Last year, the FS and IFC put together 72 boxes for local families in need. This year that number has already risen dramatically to over 100.

Donations should be made out directly to the Mad River Valley Interfaith Council. They can be mailed or dropped off at The Valley Reporter offices in the Mad River Green Shopping Center. Call Robin Kinsella at The Valley Reporter for more information, (802) 496-3928.
