On March 14, 2011, the Duxbury Select Board heard several suggestions including reduction of the speed limit from 35 mph to 25 mph and the installation of two additional stop signs at the intersection making it a three-way stop. Also discussed was the installation of speed bumps or ditches as a means encouraging the reduced speed limit. There was some question as to the role VTrans may have in the road regulation. VTrans will be contacted and a report presented at the April meeting.

In other business, the board took care of organizational issues, this being the first session after Town Meeting. JoAnn Berno was re-elected chairperson and two new members elected at Town Meeting were introduced; they are Mike Marshall and Ames Robb. Several vacancies need to be filled in the town; among these are the Duxbury representative to the Regional Planning Commission and an emergency management officer. The candidate elected to fill the town constable position at Town Meeting has withdrawn and a vacancy exists here as well. Anyone interested in any of these positions may submit their names to the select board for consideration. A resignation on the Development Review Board has created an opening(s) for anyone willing to serve as an alternate. Residents interested may submit their name to the DRB.

The monthly road report reviewed the challenging month of February and the start of March.  Steve Manosh brought to the board's attention the need to deal with residents plowing their driveways into the town roadways. It was pointed out that this is a violation of state law. Mounds of snow plowed into the road and left to freeze can cause serious damage to the town's equipment. Plans are to issue a notice and include it with property tax bills when they are mailed out in the fall. Other than that, the town roads have been posted in anticipation of mud season.

In other business, a discussion took place regarding formalizing a conflict of interest and ethics policy for the town. A review of such a proposal will take place at the April meeting. The board also moved to forward a letter to Moretown requesting that Duxbury be listed as an interested party with regard to the development proposal for The Dollar Store at the intersection of Route 2 and Route 100. There is serious concern with regard to the traffic impact at what is already a very busy intersection.
