Last summer, after getting fed up with over-the-top profits of big oil companies, Kingsbury created the “Giving Gas Station.” For every gallon pumped, one penny goes to a community organization. This year the benefactor is the Vermont Foodbank. To date, the Giving Gas Station has raised more than $2,065.24. In addition, Kingsbury helped get the Mad Bikes project, a free community bike program, off the ground by soliciting donations of bikes with incentives from his store.

This program remains strong with more than 20 green bikes available for use throughout the Mad River Valley. Last year, Kingsbury also raised money for the senior Meals on Wheels program by selling a race car that his wife raced when she "retired." He has also teamed up with the Valley Localvore project to encourage residents to raise produce for the local food shelves. Just like at his store, where customers never know what the special of the day is going to be, no one knows what cause Kingsbury will take on next.

In honor of this accomplishment, friends and family are invited to join Rotarians at a celebratory dinner, Wednesday, April 13, at The Barn Door Restaurant in Waitsfield. A social hour with a cash bar will begin at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. An RSVP is required, so please contact Lorraine Keener at 496-8379 or e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots.
