The MRVHC is a nonprofit that has been working to acquire land below market value for the creation of affordable workforce housing for low-income individuals, families and affordable housing developers.

Donaldson told Fayston Select Board members that Sugarbush has agreed to donate the parcel located across from Slide Brook Road to the MRVHC with the condition that a pull-off be constructed to allow the Mad Bus to stop on that side of the road.

The MRVHC would gain the property and provide an easement to Summit Ventures LLC for the bus pull-off.  Since the Mad Bus is 8 feet by 37 feet, the pull-off will need to be at least 10 feet by 60 feet. Part of the 60 could be in the head of the driveway, Donaldson said.

“We haven’t consummated the transaction, subject to permits and making sure there are no issues with the road cut,” he said.

A map that detailed the placement of a driveway was amended to indicate the width of the road and the planned wide-mouthed driveway that will provide access to the parcel.

“This map shows a very skinny road, and it really isn’t,” he said.

Instead of constructing the driveway next to an existing stone wall, Donaldson said the more natural place to build it is where the permit sign is currently posted and can be done without removing any trees. In addition, he said, sightlines will be better with the amended location.

“It seems to be the safest way; the culvert is still 18 inches, and we won’t have a blind drive either way,” he said.

Select board member Jared Cadwell said the town’s “main concern is about the sightline” and made a motion to approve the access permit with the condition that any trees within the right of way that obstruct sightlines be removed.

MRVHC was created in April of 1989 to support the building of housing units in the Mad River Valley through education, information, advocacy and endorsement; to serve as a source for developers, individuals, municipalities and nonprofits; and to create and administer possible funding resources for revolving or subsidy loan programs.

MRVHC serves the towns of Fayston, Warren, Waitsfield, Moretown and Duxbury and generally meets the second Tuesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at the General Wait House.
