As a fundraiser for the Valley Arts Foundation, 18 handcrafted wooden benches will serve as blank canvasses for area artists to perform their magic.

“Whether you are an artist, crafter, or anything in between, consider decorating a bench for this fun and exciting fundraiser. Benches and paints will be provided at no cost to the artist. All we need is your time and creativity,” said Karen Nevin, arts festival director.

Benches will be available soon and must be completed by June 15. The painted benches will be unveiled at the Warren Fourth of July parade.

“What could you do with your blank bench? Paint a Vermont scene, turn the bench into a beautiful mosaic, cut or carve the wooden back to match your design – anything is possible as long as the work is permanent,” she said.

Each bench will have a brass plaque with the title, artist’s name and date attached and contributing artists will be recognized in the parade and the festival program guide. The benches will be on display throughout The Valley during July and August with a tour map for visitors. A process will be in place for people to submit confidential bids to purchase a bench.

Only 11 blank benches remain. Contact Karen Nevin at This email address is being protected from spambots. “If you would like to host a bench this summer, let us know! We are looking for places that receive lots of foot traffic and great visibility,” Nevin added.
