Cliff Meader, who built a life around his loves of skiing and sailing, died July 26, 2023, in Charleston, SC, at the age of 71. Son of Allie and Dave, he grew up in Warwick, RI, with six siblings. Cliff graduated from high school in Longmeadow, MA, in 1971, and from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, in 1977. He spent many years living and skiing in Waitsfield, Vermont, working at Vermont Ski Safety and then as a writer and editor for SKI magazine.

He moved west, still skiing, to Hailey, Idaho, and then Jackson Hole, WY. Eventually Cliff left the mountains and sailed down the East Coast on his sloop Amanda. He stopped in Charleston and stayed, living on his boat, writing as a freelancer and sailing boats for others north and south with the seasons.

Cliff will be missed by many he met along the way but especially by sisters Lynn Moulton of Marblehead, MA, and Prudence Thurston of Waccabuc, NY, and brothers Geoffrey of Pembroke, MA, and Christopher of Minneapolis, MN. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Libby Bartnick and his brother Andrew.
