Sheila May Uris (Jones) was born in Baldwin, NY, in 1943 to Adam and May Jones. She graduated from Baldwin High School, where she made many lifelong friends.
Sheila lived and worked in Wisconsin and St. Croix, USVI, before returning to NY, where she worked for the Waldorf Astoria and Mademoiselle magazine.
In the 1970s, she married Alan Uris, and they moved to Warren, VT. There they pursued their passion for skiing and mountain living and raised their daughter. Sheila worked at Sugarbush Resort, where she was an avid skier and golfer; her name is still on the hole-in-one plaque there.
In the 1980s, the Uris family moved to Queens, NY. There she started a successful travel business Actyve Travel that catered to skiers.
Finally, they settled in Waitsfield Village, VT to be near their daughter’s family. They also had a winter home in West Palm Beach, FL, allowing them to enjoy life in both the mountains and the beach.
Sheila lived life to the fullest. She spent her summers on the beaches of Long Island, where her brothers and husband were lifeguards. Due to her curiosity and work in the travel industry, she was able to travel the world.
She will most be remembered for her friendly and spirited ways. She had an effortless way of connecting with others and gathered friends wherever she went.
Sheila was predeceased by her first husband Billy Wright. She is survived by her husband Alan, daughter Genevieve Knight (husband Jeff), and grandson Eamon.
Services will be held in September.
In her memory, donations may be made to Mad River Valley Meals On Wheels, where she had been a volunteer.
