Sketch by the late Billy Brauer.
With heavy hearts, we remember Philip (aka Pete, Pedro, Par 3 Pete) Kelly of Houston, Texas, and Warren, Vermont, who passed away on September 2, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Though only a part-time resident in Warren, Pete loved his many friends in the Mad River Valley community. He was an avid golfer, skier, dog lover, and supporter of Valley Arts.
Pete was born on September 11, 1930, in Luling, Texas. He was a graduate of the United States Air Force program in Roswell, New Mexico, and Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas. He was a certified professional engineer.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Preston and Marsha Kelly of Cisco, Texas, and his grandson, Colby Kelly. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Kelly; his four sons – Matthew, Thomas, Paul (wife Julie), and Timothy (wife Sharon); and seven grandchildren.
Pete once scored a hole-in-one at Sugarbush Golf Club’s 16th hole and also shot his age on several occasions. On the golf course, he was often overheard quipping, “blind hog finds an acorn,” “it’s the Indian, not the arrow,” “90% of short putts don’t go in,” “RDTM” and other colorful phrases best left to memory.
In lieu of flowers, please consider an extra treat and belly rub for your canine friends, or a donation to your favorite Mad River Valley charity or nonprofit.
