Bache

Dennis A Bache, 90, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, of natural causes, surrounded by the comfort of family at Central Vermont Medical Center.

Dennis was born December 4, 1935, in Providence, Rhode Island, to Fred C Bache and Madeline M Boucher of Providence, RI. The family later moved to Scituate, RI, where Dennis went to the local grade school and high school. He enjoyed participating in the Boy Scouts, working at a neighboring farm, sailing with his uncle, and driving his MGB through the back roads of Rhode Island. During his college years, he worked at the family hardware store called the Hayseed and attended night school to earn a degree in Business Administration at the University of Rhode Island, where he became a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.

After college, Dennis enjoyed being a volunteer firefighter in Scituate, RI, and his love of skiing found him traveling to Vermont for ski weekends. In the early 70's, Dennis moved to Moretown, Vermont, with his former wife, Carol-Ann Callaghan, and proudly built a log home. There, Dennis and Carol raised five children and operated a Christmas Tree Farm. He began working as an accountant at Glen Ellen with plenty of stories of skiing and shenanigans. He later started an accounting business, Bache and Bache Ltd, in Waitsfield. He worked with a variety of clients throughout the Mad River Valley, often working in trade or at a discount for those with little means.  He was an ardent supporter of youth sports, arts, and music, serving on the HUHS School Board. Throughout his later years, he pursued his passion for dancing, including ballroom, swing, salsa, and Argentine Tango, traveling all over central and northern Vermont with occasional trips to Montreal. The last several years of his life, he was able to enjoy the quiet and peaceful surroundings of his Moretown log home.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Madeline, his brother Gary Bache of Scituate, RI, his nephew Kevin Bache, and his former wife, Carol-Ann Callaghan. He is survived by his sisters Barbara Plummer of LaGrange, KY, and Linda Thomas of Wilmington, NC, his children Christina Bache of New Port Richey, FL, Michael Bache and his wife Sarah of Fair Haven, VT, Sarah Avery and her husband Kevin of Berlin, VT, Judy Bache and her husband Dave Schantz of Starksboro, VT and Andrew Bache of Moretown, VT. He is further survived by his four grandsons, Gabe and Ian Bache of Fair Haven, VT, and Orrin and Austin Avery of Berlin, VT, as well as a nephew and two nieces, and five grandnieces and nephews.

The family will be doing a celebration of life at a later time.  In lieu of cards or flowers, consider a donation to Mad River Senior Center at madriverseniors.org, as their help of rides, companionship, and Meals On Wheels greatly improved Dennis's quality of life the last several years of his life.
