In Memoriam: Gary C. Eckhart
Life is all too short to do
What we want for art;
as we would for love
Art and love immortal are
and the way our lives go on
Life itself is art and
their destinies combined
draw admiring eyes in search
of beauty and perfection
A charmed existence is that of those
whose life is art, an alchemy
of talent and love’s mystery,
and at last a gift of gold
When all is done
and we breathe our last
we see the finished work with awed affection
what we and art have wrought
What privilege that
at our moment consequential
we may place at pinnacle of
the Tree that was our life
the Star of an eternal Light
held in our appointed time
as others when they passed
their time with us, and ours too
in sacred succession ours
will as well be taken
But not without life and beauty
held fast in Star and Love
and recalled in memories
of hearts eternal
We are immortal, for though
life be brief, the art of love
is forever
yet with so little time for both
all is more the precious
