It is with great sadness that the family of Phaedra Demers announces her death on January 27, 2026, following a valiant six-year battle with breast cancer.
Phaedra was a lover of all things outdoors, a passionate educator and, most of all, a dedicated and loving mother. Her passion for the natural world was eclipsed only by her love of her boys Sylvan and Quill.
Born in Randolph, VT, on February 27, 1980, and raised in Granville, Phae spent her childhood surrounded by a tight-knit group of "chosen family," camping, canoeing, and spending countless days skiing. While attending elementary school in Granville and Waitsfield, Harwood Union High School, and graduating from The Gailer School, Phaedra developed a reputation for being quirky, fearless, and taking grief from no one. She graduated from St. Lawrence University in 2002 and embarked on her journey to help share her love of adventure and nature with the next generation. After meeting her husband in Colorado, they were married in 2010 and soon after settled in Conway, NH. Shortly thereafter she began working for Tin Mountain Conservation Center where she ultimately served as the Education/Camp Director.
She is survived by her parents; Dennis and Nancy Demers, her husband, and sons; Paul, Sylvan and Quill Saunders, her sister and brother-in-law; Jessica Demers and Jason Sumner, nieces and nephew; Amelia, Zaven and Zaria Sumner, and a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to support Sylvan and Quill can be made at https://gofund.me/7d6bf2f74 or donations in memory can be made to Tin Mountain Conservation Center or Jen’s Friends Cancer Foundation.
We miss the spark in your eye, our little chickadee.
