David Ellis McCourt 1942- 2026

David Ellis McCourt, 83, of Vermont, passed away peacefully March 21, 2026, at Woodridge Rehabilitation & Nursing in Berlin, Vermont.

Born Aug. 30, 1942, in Camden, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Francis Michael McCourt and Sara (Essig) McCourt. He was predeceased by his three siblings.

McCourt grew up in New Jersey and, after graduating from college, began his career as an art teacher in the public school system. In his early years, he also spent time in Florida before eventually settling in Vermont around 1970.

An artist with a keen eye for detail, McCourt was known for work that reflected quiet strength and sensitivity. His paintings often featured subtle, calming colors that mirrored his gentle personality. Friends and colleagues remembered him as both dedicated and supportive, someone who approached his craft and his work with care and consistency.

In addition to his artistic pursuits, McCourt built a long career in the hospitality industry. Over the years, he worked at Mad River Valley establishments including the Blue Tooth and Rupert’s, and most recently at the Eagles Resort, where he was employed from 2007 to 2023. He was known as a dependable and diligent worker who formed lasting connections with those around him.

McCourt made his home in the Mad River Valley, where he became part of a close-knit community that valued both his creativity and his kind spirit.

A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, June 7, 2026, from 2 to 5 p.m. at 674 Cider Hill in Warren. All are welcome to attend.
