Roger Maynard Gilman, 70, passed away in the comfort of his home and family on Monday, July 10, 2006. Born in Waterbury on July 21, 1935, he was the son of the late Forrest and Margaret (Turner) Gilman. On May 4, 1957, he married the former Lorraine E. Gage in Waterbury.

Roger was a 1953 graduate of Waterbury High School. He was employed for 32 years at the Vermont State Hospital in food service, retiring in 1990. Roger served with the Vermont Army National Guard for 24 years, retiring as First Sergeant in 1977. His memberships included Winooski Lodge 49 F&AM of Waterbury where he was a past master, the Waterbury Congregational Church, and the Waterbury Area Senior Citizens. In his leisure time, he enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, fishing, hunting, bowling, snowmobiling, cribbage and the New York Yankees.

Roger is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lorraine E. Gilman of Waterbury; their children, Kevin Gilman and his wife, Donna, of Waterbury, Mark Gilman and his fiancée, Kim Cutrone, of South Burlington; two grandsons, Justin Gilman and Anthony Sabanski; two brothers, Kenneth Gilman and his wife, Winnie, of Peru, ME, and Wayne Gilman and his wife, Sheila, of South Barre; his mother-in-law, Della Clifton of Woodridge Nursing Home, Berlin; two sisters-in-law, Gladys LaRose and Elaine Gilman, both of Waterbury; as well as nieces and nephews. Roger was predeceased by two brothers, Albion Gilman and Quentin Gilman, and a sister, Madeline Gilman.

A funeral service celebrating Roger's life will be held from the Waterbury Congregational Church on Saturday, July 15, 2006 at 11 a.m. with a luncheon to follow in the church dining room. Interment with full military honors will take place in the Waterbury Center Cemetery.
