Paul J. Marquardt, 85, of Waitsfield, passed away in the comfort of his home and family on Thursday, January 25, 2007. Born in Meriden, CT, on July 15, 1921, he was the son of the late Paul and Helen (Dunkel) Marquardt. On May 11, 1946, he married the former Virginia Ware in Ansonia, CT. Mrs. Marquardt passed away on December 21, 2005.

Paul attended schools in New Haven, CT. As a young man, he worked as an auto mechanic for Mueller's Service Station in Ansonia prior to joining the Army National Guard in 1939. In 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, being discharged in 1945 as Staff Sergeant. He returned to Mueller's Service Station where he was employed for a total of 42 years. He later worked for Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, CT, for several years from which he retired. Paul was an avid fly fisherman, starting when he was eight years old. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife throughout the years.

Paul is survived by a daughter, Helen Marquardt and her husband, Roger Lanphear, of Waitsfield, with whom he has made his home for the past two years; and a granddaughter, Cristal Vasseur and her husband, Jeff, and their daughter, Isabella, all of Fayston.

It was Paul's request to be cremated and that there will be no services. Memorial gifts may be made to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre VT 05641.
