Clifford A. Bruce, 93, a lifelong resident of Moretown, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Moretown on May 28, 1913, to Howard P. and Gertrude (Robinson) Bruce. He attended Taplin School in Moretown and also attended Montpelier Seminary.

Clifford served with the Vermont National Guard in the 1930s. He married Cora Martin on September 20, 1936, in Port Henry, NY. Cora died on December 18, 2004.

He retired from the State of Vermont Division of Buildings in the late 1970s and was a lister for Moretown for over 30 years. He was a member of the Middlesex United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Mad River Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club and the Onion River Snowmobile Club.

Clifford raised sheep, pygmy goats and Hereford cattle and showed his cattle at Washington County Field Days, the Rutland Fair and the Champlain Valley Fair.

He is survived by sons: Philip and his fiancée, Thelma Kennard, of Mesa, Arizona, Ronald and his wife, Wendie, of Moretown and Martin and his wife, Jean, of West Berlin; grandchildren Scott Bruce and his wife, Linda, of Sanford, NC, Kevin Bruce and wife, Jan, of Nottingham, NH, Laurie Harrod of Wilder, Sonia Bruce and her partner, Scott McEwan, of Wilder, Robin Elliott and her husband, Michael Elliott Sr., of Moretown, Deborah Bruce of West Berlin and Nathan Bruce of West Berlin; 10 great-grandchildren; and nephews Donald Booth of Princeton, MA, and Douglas Booth of Colchester.

He was predeceased by sisters Ermina Bruce, Eleanor Booth and Madeleine Findsen.

Visiting hours were Sunday, February 11, 2007, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Barber & Lanier Funeral Home, 139 Main Street, Montpelier. The funeral service was Monday, February 12, at 1 p.m. at Barber & Lanier.
