Barbara Whittington McLendon, 74, of Waterbury, passed away on August 12, 2007, after a courageous fight with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 17, at Lake Seymour in Morgan, Vermont.

She was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Claude Thomas Whittington and Vashti Moore Whittington. She attended Randolph Macon College in Lynchburg, Virginia, and graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, a social worker, teacher, emergency medical technician, naturalist and shepherd, and she enjoyed fiber arts and crafts. In recent years she resided in Waterbury, Vermont, Chapel Hill and the Village of Fearrington, North Carolina.

She is survived by her husband, John Aycock McLendon, daughter Lee Whiting McLendon, son John Aycock McLendon Jr., and granddaughters Mary Elizabeth McLendon and Lee Anne McLendon. She was predeceased by her parents and by a son, Mark Whittington McLendon.
